CAI's diverse fleet of railcars is supported by capital and leasing experience that makes things happen. We have been in tranportation leasing since 1989 and carry that experience to the rail market. CAI’s growing and diverse fleet

We have built a growing, and diverse fleet of railcars capable of handling freight for customers who need to access Class I and regional rail systems to ship grain and agricultural products, forest products, energy products, industrial products, chemicals, and food. Our fleet includes:

  • Tank Cars

    Used to ship compressed or liquid commodities.

  • Covered Hopper Cars

    Designed to handle shipments of free flowing dry bulk commodities. Cars are loaded from the top and product is discharged from the bottom. Our fleet includes a variety of covered hoppers, including pressure differential covered hoppers, coal hoppers and plastic pellet hoppers.

  • Gondolas

    Designed to ship heavy bulk commodities that include scrap metal, aggregates, logs, lumber, etc.

  • Flat Cars and Bulkhead Flat Cars

    Designs come in a variety of lengths, tonnage and capacity for specialized commodities that are not subject to damage from the elements.

  • Boxcars

    Designed to transport bundled building supplies with a center partition to secure the products in place.

Understanding our rail equipment

We are rail operators, not just rail lessors, and we know our assets inside and out. CAI Rail’s team includes people with the engineering and mechanical capabilities to service cars and keep our fleet operating at peak efficiency.

We are also experts in refurbishing and modifying rail equipment. With over 30 years of experience, our rail team, led by our Chief Mechanical Officer, has a unique skill set to to meet our customer's needs.
